Goals for SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL RESEARCH AND SERVICES:
1. Provide technical leadership for
the Nation’s measurement and standards infrastructure and ensure the
availability of essential reference data and measurement capabilities.
NIST evaluates the performance of its laboratories through external
peer review (conducted by the National Research Council), economic
impact studies, and evaluation of numerous scientific and technical
outputs.
2. Assist U.S. businesses and other
organizations in continuously improving their productivity,
efficiency, and customer satisfaction by adopting quality and
performance improvement practices.
3. Protect the national information
infrastructure.
